The baby's about 15.7 inches long now, and weighs almost 3 pounds (like a head of cabbage). A pint and a half of amniotic fluid surrounds it, but that volume will decrease as the baby gets bigger and takes up more room in your uterus. Eyesight continues to develop, though it's not very keen; even after the baby's born, baby's eyes will be closed for a good part of the day. When the baby does open them, it will respond to changes in light but will have 20/400 vision which means the baby can only make out objects a few inches from its face. (Normal adult vision is 20/20.)

Baby Ladewig at 29 weeks
Here is Baby Ladewig at 29 weeks. The sonographer told me that its head is on my right and feet are on my left. This confirmed my suspicions that baby is sticking it's head out, and not mooning us, as had been suggested previously.
The picture is in profile, and baby appears to be sucking its thumb. Either that or yawning. Are we boring already?
My other favorite pose was when the baby decided to show us it could touch its toes to its forehead.
Baby weighs 2 lbs and 12 ounces.

29 Weeks
The baby now weighs about 2 1/2 pounds (like a butternut squash) and is a tad over 15 inches long from head to heel. His muscles and lungs are continuing to mature, and his head is growing bigger to make room for his developing brain.
This trimester, about 250 milligrams of calcium are deposited in your baby's hardening skeleton each day.

28 Weeks
The furniture move prompted us to find a new backdrop location. By the time Jon took these photos we found ourselves unsure of which way I should face.
This week, the baby weighs two and a quarter pounds (like a Chinese cabbage) and measures 14.8 inches from the top of her head to her heels. She can blink her eyes, which now sport lashes. With her eyesight developing, she may be able to see the light that filters in through the womb. She's also developing billions of neurons in her brain and adding more body fat in preparation for life in the outside world.
Presents!!!
My mom sent us a wonderful gift to celebrate the feast of St. Patrick's. This trendy diaper bag looks good, even on me.
Thanks Mom,
Love,
Anne & Jon

More about week 27
From babycenter.com
Your pregnancy: 27 weeks
How your baby's growing:This week your baby weighs almost 2 pounds (like a head of cauliflower) and is about 14.4 inches long with his legs extended. He can now open and close his eyes, and he sleeps and wakes at regular intervals. He may suck his fingers, and although his lungs are still immature, they would be capable of functioning — with assistance — if he were to be born prematurely. Chalk up any rhythmic movement you may be feeling to a case of baby hiccups, which may be common from now on. Each episode usually lasts only a few moments, and isn't bothersome to him, so enjoy the tickle. With more brain tissue developing, your baby's brain is very active now. Wonder what he's thinking?

Para Espanol, oprima dos
This is a public service announcement from me to you, dear reader.
Yesterday the cable went out, and Jon tried to call Comcast to report it three times. Jon got disconnected three times. The fourth try, I said, "Press the button for Spanish." He pressed the button for Spanish, and it told us to hold for an operadora (that's operator). In less than a minuto, we were connected with a Spanish-speaking operator, who also spoke English. Aparently, my guera (blonde) accent gave me away, because although I was speaking Spanish, she spoke English back to me.
Just in case you'd like to try this in the future, and are apprehensive about reporting your cable outage in English to a Spanish-speaking operator, here are some phrases to remember:
El televisor no funciona ... The televison set isn't working
Ni la computadora ... the computer isn't either
Mi direccion es ... My address is
Mi numero de telefono es ... My phone number is
Quiero comunicarme con tu jefe ... I'd like to speak with your supervisor

27 Weeks
What's going on with the baby, according to http://www.thenestbaby.com/: Toughening up her immune system, with help from your antibodies.
Top 10 things going on here on the outside, according to me:
10) Started calling around to Pediatricians -- got on the schedule for a new parent orientation.
9) Got back on track with going to the gym -- a new, larger sportsbra was a big help in making that happen.
8) Saw my OB/GYN at Mass -- actually almost knocked her over when I was running outside to the ladies' room after communion. She understood. :)
7) Ordered some thank you notes so I can start being considerate of all the lovely gifts people are sending the baby.
6) Found out Fr. Shea is leaving Holy Trinity to take a Jesuit post as head something of Maryland. Have to get baby’s Baptism on his schedule before he leaves!
5) Checked out some videos and books from the library about birth and being a working mom.
4) Made room for baby -- donated 60 books and other miscelaneous items to Tossed & Found, the Junior League's annual rummage sale.
3) Discovered The Wiggle Room, a baby/maternity consignment store in Bethesda. Got a glider for 88% off!
2) Found pictures of a very cute baby on my computer at work – guess who it is!?!
1) Received an AMAZING box of baby clothes from Aunt Teri!
